Spirit, ruach (roo-ach); Strong’s #7307: Spirit, wind, breath. This word occurs nearly 400 times. Job 37: 21 and Ps. 148: 8 speak about “winds” related to storms. In Gen. 6: 17, “the ruach of life” is translated “the breath of life.” Generally ruach is translated “spirit,” whether concerning the human spirit, a distressing spirit (1 Sam. 16: 23), or the Spirit of God. The Holy Spirit is especially presented in Is.: God puts His Spirit upon the Messiah (42: 1); He will pour out His Spirit upon Israel’s descendants (44: 3); Yahweh and His Spirit both send the Anointed One (48: 16, a reference to the triune God); the Spirit of God

breath, neshamah (ne-sha-mah); Strong’s #5397: Breath, breath of life, breathing person, living soul. This word first appears in Gen. 2: 7, where God breathed into man’s nostrils the nishmat chayim, “breath of life,” and man became a living being. This is the tender account of how man took his first breath, aided entirely by the Creator, who shared His own breath with him. God literally taught man how to breathe. The psalmist here counsels everyone and everything that has neshamah (breath) to praise the Lord.
